The Kenner Obi-Wan Kenobi action figure, part of the 1977 Kenner Vintage Collection for “Star Wars,” was released as part of the first wave of “Star Wars” action figures. It retailed for $1.99 and has become a highly collectible item, now selling for many times its original price.
One distinctive feature of the original Kenner Obi-Wan Kenobi figure, along with figures of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader from the same era, was the double telescoping lightsaber. This accessory had a two-stage design, with a thinner blade that slid out from the main thicker one, which was an attempt to mimic the lightsaber’s activation in the movies. However, due to the design’s fragility and cost, Kenner later switched to a single-piece lightsaber.
Collectors highly seek these original double telescoping lightsabers, and there are specific traits that distinguish genuine ones from reproductions, such as color, transparency, molding marks, and fluorescence under a black light.
Obi-Wan would come with either a Single Piece Lightsaber or the much rarer Double Telescoping Lightsaber.
