The Kenner Death Squad Commander action figure, also known as the Star Destroyer Commander, was released in 1977 as part of the original Star Wars action figure line. This figure was included in the first wave of 12-back cards and retailed for $1.99. The figure stands at 4 inches tall and was marketed for children ages 4 and up.
The Death Squad Commander was one of the first 12 figures released by Kenner to support “Star Wars: A New Hope” and remained a popular figure among collectors. Despite its age, the figure is known to have many variations that collectors seek out, such as differences in eye colours, insignia, the colour and type of grey plastic used, head colour, the mould of the helmet, and the finish to the boots and gloves, as well as the country of origin (COO) markings on the figure.
The figure came equipped with a laser rifle, adding to its appeal as a military character from the Star Wars universe. Over the years, the Death Squad Commander has become highly collectible, with variations and condition affecting the value of individual figures on the collectors’ market.
